Overview
Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid commonly used for the regular treatment and prevention of asthma symptoms. It effectively reduces chronic airway inflammation, making breathing easier.

Mechanism of Action
It acts locally in the lungs by suppressing the inflammatory response. Budesonide decreases the synthesis and release of inflammatory mediators like histamine and leukotrienes, thereby reducing airway edema and hyperreactivity.

Dosage and Administration
Administered via a dry powder inhaler or nebulizer. The dose varies by age and asthma severity, typically ranging from 100 to 400 mcg twice daily for adults. Rinsing the mouth after use is highly recommended.

Side Effects
Mild side effects include throat irritation, coughing, and oral thrush. Prolonged use of high doses may marginally increase the risk of systemic corticosteroid effects, such as easy bruising or cataracts.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to budesonide. Like other inhaled steroids, it is not intended for rapid relief of acute bronchospasm.
