Overview
Fusidic acid is a topical antibiotic highly effective against staphylococcal skin infections. It is commonly used to treat conditions like impetigo, infected cuts, and infected dermatitis.

Mechanism of Action
It functions by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It interferes with the translocation of the elongation factor G (EF-G) from the ribosome, preventing the addition of amino acids to the growing peptide chain.

Dosage and Administration
Applied topically to the affected skin area 3 to 4 times daily until the infection clears, typically for 7 to 14 days. It is available as a cream or ointment.

Side Effects
It is generally very well tolerated. Occasional mild side effects include mild irritation, itching, or redness at the application site. Contact dermatitis is a rare possibility.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fusidic acid or its salts. It should be kept away from the eyes to avoid irritation.
