Overview
Atomoxetine is a non-stimulant medication specifically approved for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children, adolescents, and adults.

Mechanism of Action
Unlike stimulants, it is a highly selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. By blocking the norepinephrine transporter, it increases norepinephrine levels in the prefrontal cortex, which is associated with improved attention and behavior control.

Dosage and Administration
Administered orally once or twice daily. The dosage is typically based on body weight for children and adolescents. It does not have the abuse potential of stimulant medications and is not a controlled substance.

Side Effects
Common side effects include stomach upset, nausea, decreased appetite, fatigue, and dizziness. In rare cases, it carries a warning for potential severe liver injury and a potential increased risk of suicidal ideation in children and adolescents.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, pheochromocytoma, or severe cardiovascular disorders. It must not be used within 14 days of taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI).
