Overview
Zinc Oxide Cream is a widely used topical barrier cream. It is most commonly applied to prevent and treat nappy rash in infants, as well as to protect minor skin irritations and abrasions.

Mechanism of Action
It works primarily by forming a physical, protective barrier on the skin’s surface. This barrier effectively repels moisture, protecting the skin from irritants like urine and feces, while also possessing mild astringent and antiseptic properties.

Dosage and Administration
Apply a thick layer to the affected area as needed, particularly at every diaper change for diaper rash, after cleaning and drying the area thoroughly.

Side Effects
Zinc oxide is generally extremely well-tolerated. Side effects are rare but can occasionally include mild skin irritation or allergic contact dermatitis from other ingredients in the cream base.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to zinc oxide or any component of the formulation. It should not be used on deep or puncture wounds, or severe burns.
