Overview
Ramipril is a widely used ACE inhibitor indicated for the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, and for reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular death in high-risk patients.

Mechanism of Action
It prevents the formation of angiotensin II, relaxing blood vessels and lowering blood pressure, which decreases the workload on the heart.

Dosage and Administration
The starting dose is typically 1.25 mg to 2.5 mg once daily, titrated upwards based on the condition being treated and patient response.

Side Effects
Common side effects include a persistent dry cough, dizziness, and hypotension. Rare but serious risks include angioedema and hyperkalemia.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema and during pregnancy.

Pregnancy and Lactation
Not recommended during pregnancy due to fetal risks. Breastfeeding is generally not recommended.
