Overview
Lisinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor widely used for treating hypertension, congestive heart failure, and acute myocardial infarction.

Mechanism of Action
It inhibits the conversion of angiotensin I to the potent vasoconstrictor angiotensin II. This reduces blood pressure and aldosterone secretion.

Dosage and Administration
For hypertension, the initial dose is typically 10 mg once daily. For heart failure, starting doses are lower, often 2.5 mg or 5 mg once daily.

Side Effects
A persistent dry cough is a common side effect. Other risks include dizziness, headache, and hyperkalemia.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor treatment and during pregnancy.

Pregnancy and Lactation
Contraindicated in pregnancy due to risk of fetal toxicity. Consult a doctor regarding breastfeeding.
