Overview
Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal medication primarily used to treat yeast infections of the vagina, mouth, and skin, such as athlete’s foot and ringworm.

Mechanism of Action
It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This leads to increased membrane permeability and leakage of intracellular contents, ultimately causing fungal cell death.

Dosage and Administration
Available in various forms including creams, vaginal suppositories, and lozenges. Vaginal yeast infections are typically treated with a 1 to 6-day course of suppositories or cream.

Side Effects
Generally well-tolerated. Localized side effects may include skin irritation, burning, stinging, or redness at the application site.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or any of its components. Avoid contact with eyes.
