Overview
Tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker that relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. It is primarily used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH).

Mechanism of Action
It selectively blocks alpha-1 receptors in the prostate, leading to relaxation of smooth muscles and improved urine flow.

Dosage and Administration
The typical adult dosage is 0.4 mg once daily, taken approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day.

Side Effects
Common side effects include dizziness, runny nose, and abnormal ejaculation.

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with a history of orthostatic hypotension or severe hepatic impairment.
