Elderly Health Care Voucher Scheme

To safeguard the health of the elderly, the government launched the "Elderly Health Care Voucher" scheme as early as 2009 to subsidise eligible elderly individuals for private primary healthcare services. This allows the elderly to receive professional diagnosis, examinations and treatment promptly, while also alleviating the burden on public healthcare. 

How to apply for and use medical vouchers? 

Elders, as long asElders aged 65 or over and holding a valid Hong Kong Identity Card or a Certificate of Exemption issued by the Immigration Department.Medical voucher services can be enjoyed without registration or collection. 

Healthcare providers registered in the scheme (such as clinics, medical institutions, or service centres) will open an individual voucher account for eligible elderly individuals when they first use their voucher. 

After use, the healthcare service provider will give the elder a "Record of Healthcare Voucher Usage", and the system will also immediately notify the elder or their designated family member/carer by SMS message for record-keeping.

What is the amount of government funding? 

Eligible seniors, £2,000 voucher amount available annuallyand unused medical vouchers can be retained and accumulated.The accumulated amount limit is £8,000.。 

Furthermore, from 28 July 2023, eligible elders can share their medical vouchers with their spouses. This means that if one party's medical voucher account runs out, they can use the remaining balance from their spouse's account.

The Elderly Health Care Voucher Scheme's coverage has been extended to include fourteen types of healthcare professionals. These include:
